"Houyttunia" cordata

Houttuynia is a genus of two species in the Saururaceae native to Southeast Asia.
Houttuynia cordata (simplified Chinese: 鱼腥草; traditional Chinese: 魚腥草; pinyin: yúxīng cǎo; literally "fishy-smell herb"; Vietnamese: giấp cá; Korean: 약모밀; English lizard tail and chameleon plant; Japanese: 十薬 or　どくだみ), one of two species in the genus Houttuynia, is a flowering plant native to Japan, Korea, southern China and Southeast Asia, where it grows in moist, shady places.


Culinary use
Grown as a leaf vegetable, particularly in Vietnam, where it is called giấp cá or diếp cá and is used as a fresh herbal garnish. The leaf has an unusual taste that is often described as fishy (earning it the nickname "fish mint"), so it is not enjoyed as universally as basil, mint, or other more commonly used herbs.
In the southwestern Chinese provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan, roots are used as a root vegetable. English names include heartleaf, lizardtail, and fishwort.
While in Thailand in the North East in the town of Mukdahan, by the Mekong river, I had this herb as a salad. Freshly pick and served with long beans, water spinich aka Kang Kong and other juicy and crunchy stuff. Its a healthy way to stay slim and healthy!

 Medicinal use

Houttuynia cordata is also used in herbal medicine. The beverage dokudami cha (Japanese: ドクダミ茶; literally "Houttuynia cordata tea") is an infusion made from the leaves, Oolong tea leaves, and Job's Tears.
In the Old day in Japan, Samurai warriors used to carry this herb with them to help reduce inflammation of battle wounds due to infection and hasten the healing process.
The word Dokudami means - Doku for Poison and Dami - blocker

Today we are fortunate to have its best extracts place into a 330ml bottle. It is taken once or twice a day before breakfast and after dinner. I also use it directly on open wounds. It stings a bit when first applied but it numbs the area and upon second application it does not even hurt. Those with open wounds that do not heal due to Diabetes have use this in both ways, taken internally and applied directly to the wound. The results are very impressive. Wounds start to dry up, heal and the sugar level begins to decline when consume twice a day.
